List of maintenance and repair items identified to improve conditions of Chapel Hill Public Tennis Courts. Version (11/14/2022)

Note: Items subject to updates, additions, and deletions. List should only be considered a starting point for discussions and progress monitoring.


Ephesus Tennis Courts

E-18: Resurface all four courts during spring 2022. Americourt recommended a product called Bamilex. CH P&R and tennis community have agreed to go ahead with this solution, noting this is a temporary solution as it is expected that cracks will return. A long term solution still needs to be planned and funding found. Due to heavy summer and fall usage, planned date has slipped to October, 2022.Near Completion

E-09: Assess purchase and installation of sound reduction screen between PB and tennis courts (looking at Acoustifence). Estimate for 110 ft, was $7500. Investigating if other cheaper options. Asking tennis community to research solutions.On hold
E-12: If possible, rotate light shields downward that are pointing up and shine in player’s eyes. Electrician indicated this could only be done by the company who installed the lights. Item status moved to On Hold.On Hold
E-14: Assess and add new signage at tennis court entrance. Need to coordinate what the signs should say. Should there be hooks for people to place racquets when waiting for courts? Should there be bulletin board for people to post notices like lost equipment?On Hold

Ephesus Long Term

Plan for the future maintenance and full renovation of courts. Come up with options, funding plans and schedules. Renovations should take in the findings from recent soil survey. Commitment by Parks and Rec to preserve the four courts for dedicated tennis play to support local public drop-in use by families, students, school youth and adults and schedule play for lessons, camps, and school tennis teams.
