Learn about the newly launched Love To Serve Foundation. A local non-profit with It’s mission to promote diversity and equity in the sport of tennis through empowerment, education, and mentorship in under-resourced communities.

April 1, 2022 – American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Funding Priorities – Survey

Town of Chapel Hill will be receiving approximately $11M funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) this year. Parks & Rec Commission has submitted a list of priorities on how they would like to allocate some of this money for their projects. This includes overdue renovations to outdoor parks and facilities.

The town is also asking citizens to complete a short survey to gather more input and find out what categories are important to you.  Please consider filling out this survey. Below are pertinent links.

June 1, 2022 – Summer Tennis Camps at Ephesus (9 weekly camps)

Ephesus summer tennis camps for youth run weekly through mid August from 9am-3pm. See pictures from last year’s camp <Here>. Ephesus tennis courts provide facilities for a diverse age group of local tennis players. These are faces of players impacted by decisions affecting use of the tennis courts. Let’s all support these players.

December 21, 2021 – Cedar Falls and Hargraves Parks Tennis Court Projects – Survey

Renovations are planned for Cedar Falls and Hargraves tennis courts in 2022. CH Parks and Rec is seeking public input and comment. An open public meeting to present the project was held on December 2 and several tennis community participants provided initial public feedback.

The webpage has been updated to include a copy of the December 2 presentation, input from the public meeting, and a new brief 14 questions survey. The survey is open until January 21, 2022.

November 20, 2021 – Local Reporter Pickleball And Tennis Article

The Chapel Hill Local reporter published an article on pickleball and tennis which can be found at <LocalReporterArticle>. Just to reiterate, the stated goal of chapelhilltennis.org is “to preserve and improve CH tennis public tennis facilities” with the expectation of “fairness and transparency” in decision making. Hopefully, this comes across in the article. Feel free to provide comments by sending mail to admin@chapelhilltennis.org.

October 26, 2021 – Cedar Falls Court Updates

Good things are planned for Cedar Falls tennis courts. Here is a brief list:

  • The town has passed a bond with funds allocated to renovate some of our CH public tennis courts. Renovations are being planned to totally renovate the tennis courts at Cedar Falls (and Hargraves)
  • P&R and PG&R commission have agreed that the renovation will keep all six full sized courts (see Town Agrees to Keep Six Courts At Cedar Falls. Really Good News!)
  • Renovation at Cedar Falls is expected to start late spring/early summer 2022 and take up to nine months

October 26, 2021 – Ephesus Court Updates

Good things are happening at Ephesus tennis courts. Here is a brief list:

  • All lights are shining bright (see Lights Are Shining Bright Again At Ephesus Tennis Courts)
  • Most major cracks are patched
  • Three benches delivered and five more on the way
  • New tilted practice backboard delivered
  • Court number (1-4) signs being ordered
  • P&R investigating options and funding for interim resurfacing of all four tennis courts in 2022
  • P&R investigating options and pricing for noise reducing screens
  • Evening tennis lessons and clinics underway (offered by EMPACT)

Sept 8, 2021 – Parks and Rec Staff to Survey Ephesus Courts With Tennis Community

The tennis community has been trying to get the cracks, lights, and nets fixed at Ephesus for decades. See a related post <here>.

A staff member of Parks and Rec will survey the courts with members of the tennis community to view the court conditions. The survey is planned for Sept 8 @ 5:30. We will keep the community informed of any actions or results from the survey.

Sept 8, 2021 – Largest Multi-Racquet Sports Complex to Open in Raleigh

A new campus called Swing is coming to Raleigh (Briar Creek) and is scheduled to open in 2022. It will have a total of 76 courts on 45 acres including all manner of tennis surfaces, pickleball, a new sport called padel, even beach and table tennis.
