Importance of Attendance and Meetings
We have seen good changes resulting with recent open communications between the tennis community and town officials. These did not happen by chance, they happened because people cared.
Chapel Hill Parks and Rec and town officials are making efforts to listen and respond to the concerns and recommendations from the tennis community. Our voices will only be heard if the tennis community speaks up.
The current conditions of the town public tennis courts are very poor from maintenance neglect and lack of priorities to fund renovations over decades. Much work and appropriate funding are needed to maintain, restore, upgrade to a level that meets the pride associated with Chapel Hill standards and values of public parks. Several recent good changes have been implemented, most of them are small steps but all headed in the right direction. And recently bond money has been passed with funding allocated to renovate and update courts.
Ongoing meetings, phone calls, and e-mail correspondence are happening. This page allows you to follow the promises and progress with links to past and upcoming meetings. Review the working list of maintenance items identified by court location.
What should you do? Become informed. Get involved. Contact town officials with your views and recommendations. Make a difference for you, your family, your friends, and your school teams.
